the animal fair

From 1279 until 1855 a fayre was held on Camberwell Green, one of the many attractions was a menagerie of wild animals captured from distant lands. In homage to the beasts of the ancient Camberwell Fayre, artists will create a fair and foul enclosure of luxurious and curious beasts, transforming the Green into a safari park for human animals and their keepers, with beastly goings on, sideshows and a program of performance in ‘the big top’.

ROLL UP, ROLL UP!

For the closing celebrations of 2010 Camberwell Arts Festival has inspired this years ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL contribution from Artists Helene Corr & Rebecca Feiner.

To the cries of ROLL UP, ROLL UP ! The Feiner Corr Sisters will be inviting the audience to step inside their tent of bestial delights on Camberwell Green.

Taking the 1848 Anglican hymn ALL THINGS BRIGHT and BEAUTIFUL as a starting point to have fun while simultaneously reeking havoc on nature.

Colourful Sister Corr will be dealing with the creatures that are 'great' from the hymn as she presents Dare to Dog!

Sister Feiner will encourage visitors to get on their knees, to appreciate the very 'small' for the 2010 worm charming Olympics.

Corr promises an afternoon of tantalising, transformation, titillation. She invites those with a need to release their baser animal instinct to look no further than Hackney's finest pedigree pup Mr Bubblyjocks'. Mr Bubblyjocks takes you on a bestial self journey you have never experienced in this life or any other.

Dare to Discover your inner pet, critter or animalistic avatar and take away an individual souvenir cosmetic enhancement that defies logic and vanity. If you dare, you Dare to dog! Between hours of dogging, Mr Bubblyjocks will be brushing up on his rusty Dog Whispering skills. Listen carefully and you just might get a mystery prize!

After success of last years Buddha smashing workshop on the Green, Feiner will encourage visitors to adopt a CSI style approach to the Wild Beasts with her 2010 Worm Charming Olympics, guaranteed suitable for all the family.

In her guise as Sister Feiner, she will be sending out advanced requests for visitors to bring a delicate instrument of seduction with them on the day. She explains, "anything that can induce vibrations qualifies". Her suggestions include old tuning forks or small musical instruments of your own choice.

However, sister Feiner insists she will be enforcing a strict moral prohibition of no water during the 2010 Worm Charming Olympics. H2O, is considered doping, and any use of liquid to coax the worms artificially to the surface by fraudulent temptation will result in immediate disqualification.

Possible glittering medals and prizes are rumoured for the Worm Charming Olympics but are currently being kept as a closely guarded secret by the Feiner Corr sisters- who promise to reveal all on the day Wild Beasts are unleashed on Camberwell Green...

ALL TOGETHER NOW

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord Darwin made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.
All things bright...

The purple headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning,
That brightens up the sky.
All things bright...

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
All things bright...

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day.
All things bright...

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is Darwin Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
All things bright...

(Amen)
