"Skylarking", was part of the Hackney Empire Centenary celebrations. I was invited as one of a group of Artists to convert a theatre box into an installation piece. A bit of fun on my part for this zero budget work with the aim of evoking the twin lives of the Empire as both cinema & theatre with humour.



I literally took the 'box' theme to the limit stacking locally found disused cardboard boxes, which I individually painted black and yellow gloss to the ceiling in the darkened space;

          

then, each audience member was handed an usherette style torch to discover the contents of the room, their beam of light slowly revealing a series of shakespearean curses while their feet triggered a funky version of the Pearl & Dean advert signature tune intermixed with a slurring distorted version of the national anthem as was historically played at the end of each performance.
