viva iguana
These things have their own natural life span and VIVA IGUANA ran its course. It was fun, hard work and bloody exhausting.

All the events were very idealistically free, expenses for the participating artists consisted of taking them to the pub for a post performance social. For a while this post 'Iguanativity' became a little local and much missed Sunday tradition. The expenses were cobbled together from flogging home-made veggie soup cooked up the night before in the flat, then carried up the street come rain or shine in a giant witch's pot to the venue.

Highlights for me that come to mind, included the privilege of being able to host the MadPride event, its good natured free-wheeling humour was pretty overwhelming, and, the opportunity to showcase the young talent of Ilijic, a soloist playing Macedonian music who magically created a climatic orchestral atmosphere using samples, live strings, pipes and percussion!

Resolution:

Most of the featured artists have gone on to bigger and better things, the venue the Foundry, has got its act together on every level but thankfully maintains an open policy to arts, events and people. It has so far, resisted the encroaching 'designerville' that is slowly eating away at the local area. Happily it still feels word-of-mouth.

For me, the positive feedback of the Iguana regulars, along with all those who helped out and performed remembering VIVA IGUANA with such warmth and fondness made it a fruitful and worthwhile adventure.
